NLP Certification Standards

The following are standards for achievement of Practitioner Level NLP Certification: 

Typical Duration of Training - Minimum of 120 hours

Demonstrate ability: to utilize basic skills, techniques, patterns, and concepts of NLP

  1. Behavioral integration of the basic Presuppositions of NLP 

  • The ability to change the process by which people experiencing reality is more important than changing the content in the experience of reality

  • The meaning of your communication IS the response you get 

  • All distinctions about environment and behavior can usefully be represented through the senses; visual, auditory, kinesthetic, olfactory, and gustatory. Everyone 

  • Everyone has all the resources necessary to make any change they want already within them.

  • The Map Is Not the Territory. People are not their behaviors. 

  • The positive worth of the individual is held constant, while the value and appropriateness of the internal and/or external behavior is questioned. 

  • There is a positive intent and purpose motivating every behavior, and there is a context in which every behavior has value.  

  • Feedback vs. Failure - All results and behaviors are achievements, whether they are the results that were expected or not. 

  1. Association/Dissociation

  2. Rapport Establishment & Maintenance

  3. Nonverbal Pacing and Leading

  4. Verbal & Non-Verbal Elicitation of Responses

  5. Calibrating through Sensory Experience

  6. Representational Systems (Sensory Predicates and Accessing Cues

  7. Detect and Utilize Sensory Exchanges (Visual, Auditory, Auditory Analog, Kinesthetic) 

  8. Overlapping and Translating Representational Systems

  9. Meta Model

  10. Milton Model

  11. Elicitation of Well-Formed Goals, Ecological Outcomes

  12. Recognize and change Perceptual Positions

  13. Eliciting, Installing, & Utilizing Anchors in all sensory systems

  14. Ability to Shift Consciousness

  15. Utilizing Submodalities including Timelines, Belief Change Pattern, Swish Patterns, etc.

  16. Omni Directional Chunking

  17. Reframing

  18. Accessing and Building Resources

  19. Content & Context Reframing

  20. Creating & Utilizing Metaphors

  21. Strategy Detection, Elicitation, Utilization, and Installation

  22. Contrast Frames (Relevancy, As If, Backtrack)

  23. Higher Level Patterns (Change Imprint Pattern, V-K Dissociation, Six Step Reframe, etc.)  

  24. Demonstrate Flexibility of Behavior and Attitude

 

The following are standards for achievement of Master Practitioner of NLP Certification:  

Duration of training: 120 hours

Demonstrate ability: to identify basic skills, techniques, patterns and concepts of NLP and utilize them competently with yourself and others.  

All NLP Practitioner-level skills, individually and in combinations

Design individualized Push-Pull interventions

Incorporate ecology into therapeutic interventions

Shifting between content and context and between experience that labels for experience

Specific skills of the Master Practitioner

  • Meta Programs 

  • Criteria (Values)

  • Identification and utilization

  • Criteria hierarchy

  • Elicitation of complex equivalence and adjustment of criteria

  • Sleight of mouth patterns

  • Installation and utilization of strategies

  • Advanced Submodalities 

  • Multi-level communication

  • Negotiations

  • Presentation skills

  • Modeling

  • Utilization and transformation of beliefs and presuppositions

 

The following are standards for achievement of Certified NLP Trainer: 

Duration of training: 120 hours + evaluation

Demonstration of the following behavioral competencies: 

  • Complete behavioral competence in all Practitioner and Master Practitioner level skills, ability to do any and all practitioner and master practitioner techniques simultaneously, both overtly and covertly. 

  • Demonstrate ability to shift between content and context as in the difference between a label and the actual experience

  • Model what is being taught

Demonstrate presentation skills including:

  • Pacing and Leading

  • Stimulus Variability - putting the course at risk and on the cutting-edge

  • Respect for audience: recognition and working inside others view of the world and responding ecologically to the conscious and unconscious processes of participants

  • Answer questions effectively: recognize level and intent of questions asked and then generate responses appropriate to input, mark out question response area on stage

  • Design presentations: set opening and closing frames, set outcomes, chunk and sequence information and how participants will experience training, balance delivery of information with opportunities for self discovery, facilitate learning of information and skills across pertinent contexts and within time allotment 

  • Design of exercises: Provide overt and covert learning in each exercise, including previous material for cumulative learning, specify outcomes of exercises, provide a task for all involved persons insuring behavioral learning, including a future pace. 

  • Explanation of exercises: including the ability to explain and demonstrate learning behaviorally without the use of notes or printed aids

  • Use of deep and shallow metaphor

  • Utilize multi-level feedback; ongoing re-evaluation (calibration) and incorporation of overt and covert information from individuals and groups 

  • Graceful intervention with individuals and groups: maintain rapport and give specific sensory-grounded feedback with questions that directionalize appropriate search to facilitate discovery of themselves, demonstrate, or if necessary, overtly tell people what to do

  • Tasking: creating a task that presupposes that a person behave in a different way that expands his or her model of the world

  • Ability to do demonstrations

  • Demonstration of a personal style and artistry 

  • Demonstration of an understanding of the process of NLP Practitioner and Master Practitioner training

Display Mastery of Presentation Skills including: 

Internalize beliefs: 

  • "I am a powerful and effective and people enjoy listening to me." 

  • "I am humorous."

  • "I enjoy persuasion." 

  • "I trust my own experience and I call what I see, hear, and feel." 

Physiology: 

Be resourceful, relaxed, flexible, dramatic, humorous

Know your outcome: things get clear when you know where you are going.  This is state related.  Access the state and anchor it.  

Rapport: 

  • with entire audience, find the leaders, make contact with everyone in a room at an unconscious level 

  • Influence an audience: do pattern interrupts and respond to them as opportunities for learning and integrating, change physiology of participants, induce trance states, use embedded commands, use metaphor, construct and deliver nested loops, create associated/disassociated states

  • Behavioral Flexibility: if what you are doing is not working, take another approach 

  • Challenge the audience: keep them involved, ask questions, direct portions of your presentation to individuals

  • Energy: dynamic, powerful, charismatic, vulnerable, self disclose, use pattern interrupts to change direction

  • Utilization: no matter what happens in the environment, utilize it and incorporate it to forward learning, direction

Demonstrate understanding of one-point, two-point, and three-point orientation in presentations

Demonstrate proficiency in communicating in all three modalities

Demonstrate ability to anchor from the stage: tonal, key words & phrases, spatial, gestures, facial muscle/tonus

Develop and maintain rapport with participants, other trainers, staff members, local residents, tourists, store and restaurant employees, and anyone else you come into contact with

Incorporate feedback in short periods of time while remaining resourceful.  Work out feedback formats with any other instructors that works for everyone concerned so you do not walk into a course room with baggage. Be able to "go into state" anywhere, anytime. 

Demonstrate all of these through time.
